December Greeting!

"A beautiful woman leaves in the heart of an indifferent man an image as fleeting as a reflection on water. But in a lover’s heart, the image is fixed with fire like an encaustic painting that time will never erase.”
Plutarch

I happened upon this quote from the Greek philosopher Plutarch, (AD 46 - after AD119). His reference to encaustic surprised me; even though the word encaustic originates from the Greek word "Enkaustikos" meaning "to burn in," and the first known encaustic paintings with beeswax and fire can be traced to 5th Century BC Greece and Egypt.

So with a grain of salt I share with you.  A beautiful sentiment all the same describing the ancient, alchemic and timeless beauty of encaustic.  

May you remember to take time for yourself and find peace this holiday season. This is the gift; the gift of my art.
