One of the fifty Nereid nymphs.

In Greek mythology, the 50 daughters of the sea god Nereus and sea nymph Doris, whose kingdom was the Aegean Sea. Usually depicted as beautiful young ladies, sometime riding the backs of dolphins or sea horses, they took care of the sea’s riches and protected fishermen. Each one represented a different aspect of the sea, such as sand, rocks, waves, and currents. They formed part of the sea god Poseidon’s entourage and lived at the bottom of the sea.

Theo moves swiftly thru the seas

Using the ancient medium of fire, molten beeswax, and resin with mid-century techniques, applying oils with cold wax, chalks, pastels, and other fine mediums, she adds depth as the wax merges with the ephemeral quality of photography, creating a tactile experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional. Each piece of Susan J Roche's work is a meditation that evokes a sense of serenity and healing and invites viewers to reflect and find solace in the ethereal. Through the delicate layering of imagery, oils, and wax, she seeks to capture the essence of peace, creating a profound emotional experience for the audience.

The originals have numerous layers, taking months to build textures. They contain multiple layers of oil, wax, resin, and various fine art mediums. The base image is used once in this color, size, and orientation. The work is on a 1.5-inch cradled wood panel and framed in whitewash, which protects it.

Each work is filled with peace and goodness.
