Nereus light with space
Nereus, a wise, kind and trustworthy sea god. known as “the old man in the sea” for his prophetic abilities. He was the son of the primordial sea god Pontus and the Earth goddess Gaia, and with his wife Doris (a daughter of the Titan Oceanus), he fathered the fifty Nereids, sea nymphs who inhabited the Aegean Sea. Nereus resided in the depths of the Aegean Sea and was a respected elder god, consulted by heroes like Heracles for his wisdom and knowledge of the future.
The phrase "Old Man of the Sea" was later popularized by Ernest Hemingway, though its original source is the ancient Greek god Nereus.
